Ecuador bus crash kills at least 20

A school vehicle collided with a bus killing at least 20 people and injuring 17 in southwestern Ecuador on Friday.

"There are 20 people killed... and 17 injured," President Rafael Correa said in his weekly address on Saturday.

"We send our solidarity to the families of those killed and injured."

The school vehicle was not carrying any passengers during the accident, a source at the Integrated Security Service, or ECU-911, said, news agency AFP reported.

The bus agency, which belongs to an interprovincial line, did not disclose the number of passengers on the bus.

The crash occurred on the road between the southwestern coastal towns of Yaguachi and Milagro, AFP reported. 

Road accidents are one of the leading causes of death in Ecuador, AFP said.
