Earthquake in Southwest Turkey injures several, damages buildings

An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 stuck Southwest Turkey on Tuesday, injuring at least 39 and damaging several buildings. 

As per reports, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim was quoted saying no deaths had been reported so far in the district.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake, which struck at 0034 GMT, and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.21 miles).

Turkey's health minister said of those injured, 35 were still receiving treatment, according to official Anadolu news agency. The regional governor said the injuries were caused as people fled their homes in panic. 

The earthquake was felt in nearby cities -- Sanliurfa, Gaziantep, and Diyarbakir -- while some buildings in surrounding villages and districts were damaged.

The quake was followed by eight small aftershocks.Elementary and high schools closed for the day, other local media said
