The US president's comments came on a day when China approved a security law that threatens to curb Hong Kong's freedom and autonomy

US President Donald Trump said he will speak on Friday in a press conference on China amid Beijing-Washington tiff, developments in Hong Kong, and the coronavirus fallout.

"We'll be announcing tomorrow what we're doing with respect to China," Trump told journalists on Thursday, saying "we're not happy with China", without providing details on the course of action.

After Trump's statements, Wall Street closed lower, finishing a three-day streak.

Trump's press conference will come on the same day that Britain and the United States want the UN Security Council to meet informally behind closed doors to discuss the situation in Hong Kong, as per diplomatic sources.

The US president's comments came on a day when China approved a security law that threatens to curb Hong Kong's freedom and autonomy.

The US-China relations hit a new low after Trump blamed China for its response to coronavirus and Washington slamming Beijing for its authoritarian measures in Hong Kong.

US-based The New York Times reported that the US is considering annulling visas for thousands of Chinese graduate students studying at US universities who have ties to educational institutions back home with links to China's military.

Trump has been critical of China over coronavirus that originated from China and spread worldwide and affected the US the most with over 100,000 deaths.

However, critics of the US president blame him and his administration for the lackluster response to the crisis that has thrown unimaginable economic and health challenges to the world's biggest economy.
