US President Donald Trump has stirred up fresh controversy on Saturday after he left the White House for his golf course in Virginia amid the coronavirus situation in the country. 

A photo resurfaced of Donald Trump wearing typical golf wear of white polo shirt and white baseball cap and was seen departing the White House. 

The United States recorded a further 1,127 deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing its total to 97,048 since the global pandemic began, as per tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.

Trump's coronavirus task force coordinator, Deborah Birx, told a White House briefing on Friday that Americans over this Memorial Day weekend should "be outside, play golf, play tennis with marked balls, go to the beach - but stay six feet apart!"

Meanwhile, the global number of novel coronavirus cases has passed 5.25 million with more than 339,000 deaths, according to a tally from official sources compiled by an agency.
