Watch: Donald Trump says Queen made him wait for their tea meeting

United States President Donald Trump dismissed reports of him being late to meet Queen Elizabeth for tea during his UK visit. He also termed such reports as "fake disgusting news".

Refuting the reports, Trump claimed it was the Queen instead who made him wait.

Speaking at a Pennsylvania rally, Trump said, "I was about 15 minutes early and I'm waiting with my wife and that's fine. Hey, it's the Queen right? We can wait. But I'm a little early."

Explaining the reports that he overstayed his welcome at the Windsor Castle, Trump said that the tea overran because the first lady Melania Trump and Queen got along very well. 

Trump said, "I guess the meeting was scheduled for 15 minutes and it lasted for almost an hour. Because we got along. And she liked our first lady and our first lady liked her."

"So I was late and I overstayed. And honestly folks, it was such a beautiful, beautiful visit but they can make anything bad because they are the fake, fake disgusting news," he added while attacking the media.

During his speech at the rally, Trump denounced the media for doubting his political accomplishments referring to the criticism he faced after the Helsinki summit with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Donald Trump made his much-anticipated visit to the UK earlier in July.

During the visit, he held talks with prime minister Theresa May at her country residence Chequers after which he went to Windsor Castle for a tea with Queen Elizabeth.

Trump had also stirred a controversy after the 92-year-old monarch was forced at one point to walk around the US President after he halted abruptly during a ceremonial inspection of the guard.

While inspecting the guard at Windsor, Elizabeth appeared to give direction to Trump but then the president abruptly halted and Elizabeth was forced to walk around him.
