Story highlights

US has reported a huge jump in the number of deaths in the past 24 hours. This was a huge jump from the last number of reported deaths, that was 1,258.

The United States reported 1,237 more coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours on Saturday night, taking the total toll to 88,730. The figures were reported by Johns Hopkins University.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases is now 1,466,682 in the US, which has been the worst-affected country by COVID-19.

As months are passing, the number of fresh coronavirus cases and deaths seem to be on a constant rise in the US.

While the cases on a rise, former US President Barack Obama has criticised current President Donald Trump for handling the pandemic poorly.

Trump, on the other hand, has accused China of withholding important information about coronavirus, and stealing America's research on COVID-19 vaccine. China, in return, has claimed that this is Trump's way of hiding the poor handling of coronavirus in his country.
