Russia on Tuesday reported over 10,000 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours as the number of infected cases reached 155,370.

Russian health officials said 10,102 new infections which was a decrease of just 531, making the country the new coronavirus centre where the virus has been gaining ground exponentially even as several European countries are in the process of easing the lockdown.

The virus had infected Russian PM  Mikhail Mishustin last week as authorities struggled to contain the sudden spurt in COVID-19, although authorities said there were carrying out more tests.

There have been 1,451 deaths due to the virus in the country with 95 new fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Moscow has now become the epicentre of the virus with over half of the cases reported in the Russian capital with health workers under pressure to fight the growing epidemic.

In a starting case, three frontline health care workers reportedly fell mysteriously out of hospital windows and two died in Russia over the past two weeks stroking fears of working conditions of doctors in the country as the country struggles to fight the virus.

The country has increasingly become a virus blackspot with new cases in Russia surpassing several European countries who have been reeling under the virus, however, the fatality rate hasn't been even close to those in Spain, Italy and United Kingdom which have seen over 25,000 deaths.
