Story highlights

China wants to create a new world order it's using this pandemic & propaganda to fulfil the Chinese dream.

As the countries across the world question China for its role in spreading the Wuhan virus, Beijing has come up with a counter charge and accuses countries of failing to protect their people, even threatening countries that point finger at China, with a boycott.

China wants to create a new world order and it's using the pandemic to fulfil its dream. Just like the virus its spread across the globe, China media now wants to wade into global geopolitics. In order to achieve that goal, China is ramping up international broadcasting and training foreign journalists.

Beijing has undertaken extensive advertising campaigns for the purpose which includes even buying media outlets.  It is also investing billions to increase its global media influence.

According to one report, the Chinese regime invests as much as 1.3 billion dollars annually to increase the reach of the state media.

A good amount of this money is spent on promoting state media in foreign news outlets. According to US Justice Department figures, China Daily, a mouthpiece of the Chinese regime has paid American newspapers 19 million dollars for advertising and printing in the last 4 years alone.

The Wall Street Journal is one of the largest newspapers in the United States in terms of circulation with 2.8 million copies annually. The company has earned whopping 6 million dollars since November 2016 through Chinese advertisements.

On the other hand, The Washington Post, a newspaper that has won 69 Pulitzer prizes, 18 Nieman fellowships and 368 awards from the White House, has earned 4.6 million dollars through Chinese ads.

The list keeps getting illustrious with The New York Times, 130 Pulitzer Prizes and the world's 18th most circulated newspaper, has earned 50,000 dollars in paid news between 2016 and 2020.

The Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Chicago Tribune, The Houston Chronicle, The Boston have also been listed as clients of China Daily.

Some of these newspapers have published paid supplements produced by China Daily, designed to look like news articles.

This was Mao Zedong's desire for modern-day China. The Communist Party surely has both the money and the reach to make some in the foreign press serve its interests.
