United States President Donald Trump took Twitter to blame bad environmental laws, the reason behind California wildfires on Tuesday.

He said the environmental laws are not allowing the proper utilization of readily available water.

"California wildfires are being magnified & made so much worse by the bad environmental laws which aren't allowing massive amounts of readily available water to be properly utilized. It is being diverted into the Pacific Ocean. Must also tree clear to stop the fire from spreading," President Trump tweeted.

He further tweeted asking California Governor Jerry Brown to allow the free flow of water.

"Governor Jerry Brown must allow the Free Flow of the vast amounts of water coming from the North and foolishly being diverted into the Pacific Ocean. Can be used for fires, farming and everything else. Think of California with plenty of Water - Nice! Fast Federal govt. approvals," read the tweet.

Several thousand people have been evacuated as the fires swept across the state, although some have been given permission in recent days to return to their homes.

More than 4,200 firefighters have been deployed to battle the conflagration but they have only succeeded in containing 41 per cent of it so far.
