'The relationship is very special — the relationship that I have with President Xi — and I think that is going to be a very primary reason why we will probably end up getting something that will be good for China and the United States,' Trump said.

US President Donald Trump met with his Chinese counterpart President Xi Jinping at a dinner meeting on Saturday on the sidelines of the 13th G20 Summit.

According to reports, the two leaders interacted and discussed the growing trade war between the two biggest economies in the world.

During the start of the dinner, which marked the end of the two-day-long, high-voltage summit, the US President described his relationship with the Chinese President as "very special."

"The relationship is very special — the relationship that I have with President Xi — and I think that is going to be a very primary reason why we will probably end up getting something that will be good for China and the United States," Trump said.

Xi, on the other hand, called for mutual cooperation for better ties and easing of tensions.  "Only with cooperation between us can we serve the interest of both peace and prosperity," Xi noted.

White House top economic advisor Larry Kudlow shared that the meeting went "very well" and that an official statement on Trump-Xi interaction will be issued shortly by White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, news agency AFP reported.
