After facing Donald Trump's wrath, Twitter now fact-checks Chinese spokesperson's post

Twitter fact-checked a two-month-old post by the Chinese spokesperson after facing the wrath of US President Donald Trump for taking similar action against his tweet. 

The tweet accused the US army of bringing coronavirus to China's Wuhan. 

"When did patient zero begin in US? How many people are infected? What are the names of the hospitals? It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owe us an explanation!" the tweet by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on March 12.

Twitter posted a blue exclamation mark beneath his tweet, with a comment urging users to check the facts on COVID-19. 

After clicking the suggested link, a page opened with the headline, "WHO says evidence suggests COVID-19 originated in animals and was not produced in a lab".

Meanwhile, Trump after sharply criticising Twitter for fact-checking his tweet signed an executive order that intended to limit the freedom of tech organisations over the content posted on their mediums. 

On Tuesday, Twitter for the first time fact-checked Trump's post which claimed mail-in ballots are " subsequently fraudulent". Twitter called the claims as "unsubstantiated" and put a warning label in the post.
