Japan to expand state of emergency as COVID-19 cases spike in country

Japan said on Friday it will expand states of emergency to three prefectures near Tokyo and Osaka, as COVID-19 cases spike in the capital and across the country. Japan saw new COVID-19 cases surpass 10,000 for two days in a row, while Tokyo cases broke records for three days in a row through Thursday. Currently, the state of emergency is in force in five cities in Japan.
