Suresh Kalmadi declines Indian Olympic Association life president post
Former sports minister Suresh Kalmadi has declined the post of life president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), his lawyer told NDTV today.
The appointment of Kalmadi and Chautala by the Indian Olympic Committee yesterday invited criticism. sports minister Vijay Goel and Ajay Maken, sports minister in the previous government, called for their removal because of corruption charges against them.
The sports ministry issued showcause notice to the IOA today saying all ties with the sports body would be cut off till Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Singh Chautala were removed as life presidents of the Indian Olympic Association.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA), meanwhile defended their appointment today, calling it a "legitimate decision constitutionally."
