Six individuals across three clubs test positive for coronavirus in Premier League

The English Premier League has confirmed that six people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus out of 748 samples of players and club staff across the teams. 

The league has denied identifying these individuals who were tested positive for the novel coronavirus. 

The league is set to resume in the first week of June and they are planning to test all players and staff across the club before the game continues. 

They released a statement which read: "The Premier League can today confirm that, on Sunday 17 May and Monday 18 May, 748 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, six have tested positive from three clubs.

"Players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days." 

"The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and oversight. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the Premier League due to legal and operational requirements."

The United Kingdom government on Monday gave a green signal to the resumption of Premier League, behind closed doors, from June 1.

As per the latest decision taken after Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s roadmap presented in the Parliament, cultural and sporting events will be allowed without fans in a bid to avoid large-scale social contact but the events will be broadcasted.

Notably, the Premier League is set to meet today with clubs to discuss the much-talked-about ‘Project Restart’ and the implications of playing matches in the proposed neutral venues.  

However, no formal votes will be taken today. However, those in support of a restart will be left confident after Monday’s government guidelines.
