Roland Garros to be held with fans: French tennis federation

The head of French tennis federation (FFT) has announced that the French Open will be held with fans. The Grand Slam is set to begin on September 27 and will go on till October 11.
"It will absolutely not be behind closed doors. There is no final decision yet on the number of spectators, which will be decided on with the public authorities," FFT president Bernard Giudicelli told reporters.
The French Open was delayed by almost three months due to the coronavirus outbreak across the globe and the schedule for Roland Garros was postponed from May to September. Grand Slam being played comes as a relief to lower-ranked players who have been especially hard hit by the lack of earning opportunities since tennis was shut down in March.
According to Giudicelli, the tickets will be sold around the end of the month or beginning of July.
Earlier, players complained about the jam-packed schedule as they get just seven weeks to prepare after the US Open is held. But the French tennis head is confident that top players will turn up to play.
"Seventy-five players from the top 100 are currently in Europe and I am convinced they will preserve themselves to be in top form in Paris," said Forget.
He also said that Paris masters would take place from October 31 to November 8.
