Mumbai Indians youngster 'regrets' promise made to Sushant Singh Rajput as MI post heartfelt tweet

Mumbai Indians prodigy Digvijay Deshmukh, who first caught attention by playing cricket alongside Sushant Singh Rajput in the Bollywood movie ‘Kai Po Che’, said he regrets not meeting the actor as he had promised Sushant that he will only meet him when he becomes a decent level cricketer. 

Digvijay was roped in by Mumbai Indians before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season and is all set to feature in the cash-rich tournament for the most successful team in the league history. Digvijay shot with Sushant for six months for Kai Po Che as he said the actor was passionate about cricket and after wrap up of day’s shoot, Sushant would call him to his room and train him with camera angles and scenes.

The MI prodigy further said he was supposed to meet Sushant but then the lockdown happened and the duo couldn’t reunite. Mumbai Indians took to social media platform Twitter to post a heartfelt caption and photograph as they wrote:

“Whenever Kai Po Che’s ‘Ali’ takes field next, his master ‘Ishaan’ will smile from the heavens”

“He was passionate about cricket. On the last day of the shoot, I had promised him I’d not meet him till I became a decent level cricketer. This year, when I got selected to play for Mumbai Indians, I decided to meet him but then the lockdown happened and now he is no more,” Deshmukh was quoted as saying by in media reports.

“Even then I did not meet him because I wanted to keep the promise. I regret it. I was 15 then and I shot with him for six months. He would ask me to come to his room after the shoot got over, and train me with scenes and camera angles,” Digvijay revealed.

When Digvijay makes his debut for Mumbai Indians, Sushant won’t be able to see him from inside the stadium but certainly would be smiling watching the youngster from the heaven. Digvijay further said that Sushant was a friendly and jovial character who was passionate about his work. 

"He was very involved. He was very friendly, happy and jovial and so passionate about his work. Even though he was such a big name, he would ask me about cricket since I was already a professional cricketer then," the MI prodigy said.

Digvijay has represented Maharashtra in 1 First-Class match and 7 List-A matches so far and would be able to make a mark in the biggest T20 league in the world when he takes to the field for Mumbai Indians in future.
 
On Monday, Rajput was cremated in Mumbai at Vile Parle's Pawan Hans crematorium amidst heavy downpours and a small gathering of his relatives and close friends from the cinema industry. Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide on Sunday
