Meanwhile, Srikanth defeated Indonesia’s Ihsan Maulana Mustofa 21-18 21-16 in nearly 38 minutes.

Fifth seed Sindhu will next face Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun, while Srikanth will lock horns with Thailand’s Khosit Phetpradab on Thursday.

HS Prannoy, who had reached the quarterfinals last week in New Delhi, however, bowed out after losing 12-21 21-16 21-14 to Sitthikom Thammasin of Thailand following a hard-fought battle.

With Sameer Verma too crashing out in the opening round, Srikanth is the only Indian in the fray in men’s singles.
