As it happened | Hockey World Cup 2018: Full time! Germany beat Malaysia 5-3

It's full time and Malaysia have lost it despite putting forward a good fight with Germany. 

Second before the end Germany doubled its lead, thanks to Timm Herzbruch. However, without that also they would have easily won the game.

Penalty Corner for Malaysia. Malaysia fail to convert PC as Germany hold the deflection. Timm Herzbruch scored on counter attack for Germany and game is almost over for Malaysia.

Germany got two back to back penalty corners but failed to convert them. 

Only last few minutes left for the fourth and final quarter to end.

Malaysia scores another to gain momentum. They scored third goal on Germany's goalpost but still lag behind by one goal to equal the score.

Germany again double its lead despite Malaysia contesting every German possession and raising their play.

Malaysia came from behind to score 2 goals in a span of 2 minutes in Q2 to reduce the deficit.

They had been pressing hard since Q2 started but didn't get the results.

It's raining goals from Germany. They have continued the momentum set in the first quarter by scoring their third goal against Malaysia. 

Malaysia brilliantly defended the Penalty corner but somehow lost the ball, resulting in Germany doubling its lead.

Later, Germany's number 13 managed to score after 3 passes as Timm Herzbruch found the corner of farpost finally.

The London Olympic Gold Medallist side have got an early advantage.

In today's first hockey game, Malaysia will lock horns with Germany at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. 

Malaysia and Germany have played only once since 2013. London Olympic Gold Medallist Germany won that match 6-0. 

In the Hockey World Cup 2018, Germany had hard fought 1-0 victory against Pakistan in their opening encounter, while thrashed Netherlands 4-1 in the second. 

Malaysia, on the other hand, lost their first match against Netherlands and played a draw against Pakistan.
