Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli and legend Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday posted heartfelt messages on the occasion of International Nurses Day. Almost the entire world is currently witnessing the devastating effects of COVID-19 pandemic that has infected millions of people and amid the testing times, the ones who are putting their lives to risk in a bid to overcome the pandemic are the healthcare workers and on the occasion of International Nurses Day, Kohli and Tendulkar posted heartfelt messages for the nurses working round the clock. 

Kohli, taking to social media platform Twitter, thanked all the nurses for their selfless service, dedication, compassion and kindness during challenging times and otherwise. 

Kohli wrote: "Thank you for your selfless service, dedication, compassion and kindness during such challenging times and otherwise. Smiling face with smiling eyes Let us all join together to celebrate #InternationalNursesDay."

Whereas batting great Tendulkar lauded the work by nurses across the world while calling them “silent guardians”. 

"It’s a day to celebrate & thank all the Nurses across the world who’ve been providing care & attention to those unwell & in need. They're the silent guardians who make invaluable contributions to the health & safety of people while risking their own lives. #InternationalNursesDay," Sachin wrote on his Twitter account.

International Nurses Day is organised every year to celebrate Florence Nightingale’s birth anniversary. In January 1974, 12 May was chosen to celebrate the day as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The theme for International Nurses Day 2020 is "Nursing the World to Health".
