Australia reached 24 for no loss in reply to India's first innings score of 622-7 declared on the second day of the fourth and final Test here Friday.

India: 622 for 7 in 167.2 overs (Cheteshwar Pujara 193, Rishabh Pant 159 not out; Nathan Lyon 4/178). 
Australia: 24-0 in 10 overs (Marcus Harris 19 not out; Mohammed Shami 0/9).

India declared at a massive 622 for seven in their first innings of the fourth and final Test against Australia in Sydney Friday after centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant.

Pujara made 193 and Pant was not out 159 when skipper Virat Kohli made his call in the final overs of the day after Ravindra Jadeja was out for 81.

The visitors lead 2-1 and only need a draw to clinch their first-ever series win in Australia.

A marathon 193 by Cheteshwar Pujara and a quick-fire unbeaten 88 from Rishabh Pant steered India into a dominant position at the final Test Friday with Australia rapidly seeing their hopes of saving the series evaporate.

Calm and collected number three Pujara was finally caught and bowled by spinner Nathan Lyon after a batting masterclass that spanned a day-and-a-half and 373 balls.

It was due reward for the tireless Lyon who also accounted for Hanuma Vihari in the only other wicket to fall so far on day two.

At tea in Sydney, India were 491 for six with impressive young gun Pant quickening the tempo with some exquisite strokes to also close in on a century. Ravindra Jadeja was not out 25.

The visitors lead the series 2-1 after winning the opening clash in Adelaide and the third one in Melbourne. Australia claimed victory in Perth.

Pujara out after scoring 193, missed his double century by just seven runs.

He faced a total of 373 as he played at a strike rate of 51.74.

Cheteshwar Pujara ground his way to 181 not out Friday as India turned the screws on Australia who are slowly seeing their hopes of saving the four-Test series evaporate.

At lunch on day two of the final Test in Sydney, India were 389 for five with the authoritative Pujara unmovable and Rishabh Pant on 27.

They added 86 runs to their overnight 303 for four with the loss of Hanuma Vihari, who was caught by Marnus Labuschagne off Nathan Lyon for 42.

The visitors lead the series 2-1 after winning the opening clash in Adelaide and the third one in Melbourne. Australia claimed victory in Perth.

If India, the world's top-ranked nation, win or draw in Sydney they will clinch a first-ever series in Australia since they began touring Down Under in 1947-48.

At stumps on day one, they were 303 for four with the rock-like number three not out 130 and Hanuma Vihari on 39. Mayank Agarwal made 77 with Josh Hazlewood the best of the bowlers with 2-51. 

After toiling on a hot Sydney day, Australia were rewarded with the wickets of KL Rahul, Agarwal, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, but despite a five-pronged attack the key scalp of Pujara remained elusive.
