"Good chance" - Australian coach Justin Langer upbeat about England tour

Australian head coach Justin Langer said there is a “good chance” the Aussies will visit England later this year for a limited-overs series against Eoin Morgan and Co. With Langer’s plan to touch optimum fitness and form by early September, the home ODI series against Zimbabwe is in major doubt. 

Australia were scheduled to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in England from July 3 to 16 but the rubber was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Former Cricket Australia CEO, who resigned earlier this week, had talked about the idea of touring in September if health protocols and bio-security concerns could be addressed.

International cricket will be back to life next month when England face the West Indies for a three-match Test series with the games to be played in bio-secure venues, without crowds.

If the series against the Windies is successful then Australia could follow Pakistan to visit England during the end of English summer. 

I would think there is a good chance: Justin Langer

"If you were to ask me two weeks ago if we were to go to England, I would have said there is no chance," Langer said at a press conference in Perth on Thursday.

"Standing here now, I would think there is a good chance.

"As important as it is for India to come to Australia, the Australian cricket team to go and play cricket in England would be equally as important for English cricket."

The Zimbabwe series is in major doubt due to Australia’s international border still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The likely postponement of the T20 World Cup and the future of IPL being uncertain, the approaching six months could become extremely crucial for cricket in general.
