Stefano Pioli has quit as coach of Fiorentina, the Serie A club said on Tuesday, less than 48 hours after a shock 1-0 home defeat against next-to-bottom Frosinone.

Fiorentina have dropped to 10th in Serie A after winning only one of their last 11 games in all competitions, although they have reached the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

The 53-year-old former Inter Milan and Lazio coach had been in charge for 22 months.

"Fiorentina announce that we have today received Stefano Pioli's resignation," the club said in a statement.
