Veteran South African batsman and former Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis has suggested a two-week isolation period, for players, before and after the ICC T20 World Cup.

Veteran South African batsman and former Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis has suggested a two-week isolation period, for players, before and after the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by Australia in October-November 2020.

Cricket, like every other sport, has come to a screeching halt due to COVID-19 pandemic with uncertainty mounting over the future of the T20 World Cup.

In an interaction with Bangladesh’s ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal, du Plessis said international travel is going to be a major concern for the authorities especially while bringing players from Bangladesh, South Africa or India where the virus has spread rapidly.

"I am not sure... Reading that travelling is going to be an issue for lot of countries and they are talking about December or January. Even if Australia is not affected like other countries, to get people from Bangladesh, South Africa or India where there is more danger, obviously it's a health risk to them," du Plessis said.

"But you can go in before the tournament (for) two weeks isolation and then play the tournament and afterwards two weeks isolation," said the former Proteas captain.

Du Plessis joked that he doesn’t know when South Africa will lift their travel restrictions while adding players can’t travel on boats.

"But I don't know when South Africa will open their travel ban because we can't go there like old days on boats," du Plessis said.

In March, South Africa’s three-match ODI series against India was called off due to the outbreak of the deadly virus. The COVID-19 has infected more than 44 lakh people worldwide while causing close to 3 lakh deaths.
