The athlete's coming out was not in the most ideal circumstances.

Dutee Chand, India's first openly gay athlete, graces the digital cover of Cosmopolitan July 2019 issue.

The athlete's coming out was not in the most ideal circumstances. She had claimed her older sister had threatened to go public about her sexuality. In May 2019, Dutee herself came out and admitted she was in a same sex relationship.

For the cover, Dutee wore an all-black sports bra and pair of shorts and draped herself with a cape that has all the colours of the rainbow flag. Also read: Ellen DeGeneres hails Dutee Chand's courage, says she's 'proud' of the athlete

The 100-m national record holder and winner of two silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games, Duteee had revealed that she spoke about her own same-sex relationship after the Supreme Court’s historic decision in 2018 to decriminalise Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.
