Wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik has been appointed as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming 11th edition of Indian Premier League.

He was purchased by KKR at an amount of INR 7.4 Cr. and was one of the expensive buys of the team. Robin Uthappa has been named as the vice-captain.

KKR gave a shocker when they did not retain their star performer Gautam Gambhir, who led the team to great heights in all its previous seasons but preferred two West Indies players, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Gambhir then was taken by Delhi Daredevils in the auction as the Delhi's skipper.

On receiving the honour Dinesh Kartik said, "Its a massive opportunity for me personally, I am very very happy, really excited because its a massive franchise to got this honour and rolled to be the captain of this team."

"Its a very young side, there are few very interesting talents from India U-19 we have picked up," he said about the team.

He further added, "I am looking forward to meeting them, interacting with them and getting the best out of them."
