Dhoni gloves row: ICC sticks to its stand, tells BCCI can't allow Army insignia on Dhoni's gloves

Sticking to its stand, ICC on Friday denied permission to Dhoni to wear gloves with dagger insignia. 

In its reply to BCCI, International Cricket Council (ICC) stated that the logo displayed by MS Dhoni in the previous match (India's match against South Africa on June 5) is not permitted to be worn on his wicket-keeping gloves at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, news agency ANI reported quoting ICC.

The regulations for ICC events do not permit any individual message or logo to be displayed on any items of clothing or equipment. In addition to this, the logo also breaches the regulations in relation to what is permitted on wicketkeeper gloves, the ICC added. 

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was sporting an Army insignia on his glove during the India-South Africa clash on Wednesday was well appreciated by his fans but the ICC requested the BCCI to have the badge removed, saying it is against its regulations.

However, BCCI appealed against ICC decision. But ICC sticking to its stands stated that cricket body's regulations do not permit such activity. 

Earlier, BCCI had written a letter to the ICC seeking permission for Dhoni to wear the gloves with the army badge, confirmed CoA chief Vinod Rai.

Lt General (Retd) Vinod Bhatia, in whose presence MS Dhoni was commissioned into Parachute Regiment of Territorial Army, Dhoni's CSK teammate Suresh Raina, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, CoA head Vinod Rai, Bollywood actors Riteish Deshmukh and Paresh Rawal and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi among other expressed their support to former captain Dhoni on the issue.
