China Open: Dimitrov beats Sandgren to enter 2nd round

Grigor Dimitrov advanced into the second round of the China Open after defeated Tennys Sandgren 7-5, 6-3 on Tuesday.

Dimitrov took almost an hour and a half to beat Sandgren who was playing as a late replacement for compatriot Ryan Harrison, who had to pull out prior to the match with a back injury.

In the opening set, Dimitrov broke serve to lead 4-2 but Sandgren broke back when the Bulgarian served for the set at 5-3. Dimitrov then clinched the set in the twelfth game with his fourth break point of the game.

The second set was far more straightforward as Dimitrov broke to lead 3-0. He comfortably held serve for the remainder of the set, sealing victory in 84 minutes.

Dimitrov will now face Serbia's Dusan Lajovic in the next round.
