On Sunday, wrestler Bajrang Punia had defeated Takatani Daichi of Japan in the Men's 65 kg freestyle division to clinch India's first gold in the tournament. He beat Takatani 10-8 in the final bout.

However, star wrestler Sushil Kumar crashed out in the opening round after suffering a defeat in the men's 74 kg category wrestling competition.

Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar had opened India's medal account after clinching the bronze medal in the Jakarta Asian Games.

Apurvi, Ravi finished third in the rifle mixed team shooting event and won bronze medal with a score of 429.9. Yingshin Lin and Shaochuan Lu Chinese of Taipei claimed gold with 494.1 with a Games record while strong Chinese pairing of Ruozhu Zhao and Haoran Yang bagged silver with 492.5.
