Kolkata's Jadavpur University witnessed 'Azaadi'(freedom) slogans being raised as a mark of protest against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday, a day later Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Left-leaning parties of 'poisoning the minds of the youth'.

Last year, the 'azaadi'(freedom) chant by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Kanhaiya Kumar had led to a face-off between the Indian government and students at the University campus area led to student arrests and widespread agitation against the central government.

The government then pressed sedition charges against JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya which further inflamed the situation leading to clashes between students and police in the JNU campus.

On Sunday, the students at Jadavpur University were seen holding placards which read: "Yogi is the new Trump...Brahminical version of white supremacy" and they raised slogans like "Azaadi", "Halla Bol" and "RSS door hatao". The slogans were raised by the students in front of the Academy of Fine Arts where an international seminar on the persecution of minority Hindu Buddhist Christians in Bangladesh was going on yesterday.

BJP hit out against the sloganeering with  BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao, declaring, "I hold all the political parties that have affiliation to these students groups for not guiding them properly. And these Left leaning parties are actually left with a rump in the Parliament; the people have rejected them all over the country."

"And if they continue with their attempts in poisoning the minds of the youth, these Left leaning parties will completely disappear. This is clearly an act, which is not in the national interest," the BJP leader added.

Bengal's BJP MP Roopa Ganguly said, "The protest against the RSS is nothing but a mere publicity stunt."
