Taj Mahal, minarets not representative of Indian culture: Yogi Adityanath

India's historic minaret Taj Mahal, formerly one of the seven wonders of the world, is not comparable to the Bhagwad Gita and the Ramayan, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath told a BJP rally in Bihar.

Yogi Adityanath, instead, said the prime minister's practice of gifting the Indian scripture Bhagwad Gita and the epic Ramayan to foreign dignitaries was commendable.

"Foreign dignitaries visiting the country used to be gifted replicas of the Taj Mahal and other minarets which did not reflect Indian culture," the Uttar Pradesh chief minister was quoted as saying at the Raj Maidan in Darbhanga.

The firebrand Hindutva leader was attending an event to highlight the BJP's three years of achievement in Bihar.

He also took potshots at Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, daring him to clear his stand on the issue of triple talaq.

A day earlier, Nitish Kumar had challenged Adityanath to make Bihar a dry state like Uttar Pradesh and announce 50 per cent reservation for women.

This was Adityanath's first visit to Bihar after taking over as Uttar Pradesh chief minister.
