A suspected Pakistani spy was arrested from Jaisalmer, a town in India's north-western state of Rajasthan, on Friday.

The suspect, identified as Nandal Maharaj, is believed to have smuggled 35kg of RDX (explosives) into India, law enforcement officers said.

Indian investigators, who nabbed Maharaj from a hotel in Jaisalmer, also recovered a mobile phone from him.

According to several Indian media reports, Maharaj is the first 'Hindu spy' to be sent by Pakistan into the country. He was residing in the country with a valid visa and passport, according to government officials.

Maharaj is believed to be from Sangad district in Pakistan.
