Sri Lanka: Former minister, MP Ranawaka arrested by Colombo crimes division

Former Sri Lankan minister and Member of Parliament Patali Champika Ranawaka has been arrested by Colombo crimes division. 

As per reports in local media, Ranawaka has been arrested in a road accident case that dates back to the year 2016. 

In 2016, Ranawka was in a vehicle which collided with a motorcycle and caused serious injuries to the rider. It is alleged that Ranawaka was driving the vehicle. 

The minister was discharged from the case as no proof could be procured to substantiate the fact that it was him driving the vehicle. 

However, this year the Colombo crimes division presented submissions to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

According to reports, the minister has been banned from travelling abroad.
