Six killed as blast rocks central Kabul near US embassy

Minutes after a powerful blast rocked Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani's election rally, a second blast hit Central Kabul near the US embassy killing six people, police officials said. 

The blast took place near Massoud Square and US Embassy in Afghanistan capital Kabul, a local media report said quoting Ministry of Interior. 

"We are investigating whether it was a suicide attack or whether a magnetic bomb was attached to a motor-bike," interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters. 

No report on casualties yet, the media report added. Ambulances and Afghan forces rushed to the blast site.

No group immediately claimed responsibility.

Taliban commanders have said they will intensify clashes with Afghan and foreign forces to dissuade people from voting in the September 28 presidential election, when Ghani will bid for a second five-year term.

Earlier Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani's election rally was hit by a powerful blast in central Parwan province killing at least 24 people and injuring 30 others.
