Tehran has invested in Sri Lanka's oil refinery to double its output capacity

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena will meet his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani today. Sirisena is on a two-day visit to Iran.

Sri Lanka and Iran will aim at strengthening economic and trade ties. Both the leaders are likely to sign new Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs).

Sirisena will also attend an investment and trade event organised by the Iran Chamber of Commerce. 

Iran, one of the largest oil and natural gas producing and exporting nations in the world, assists numerous development activities in Sri Lanka.

Tehran has invested in Sri Lanka's oil refinery to double its output capacity. Rouhani-led regime also supports Sri Lanka's rural electricity demand.

This will be Sirisena's first state visit to Iran after assuming office as Sri Lanka's president.
