Several soldiers of the Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed in a suicide attack in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, on Sunday.

The incident took place in the vicinity of Nad-e-Ali district after a suicide bomber detonated a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) near a military base, reported Khaama Press.

According to the reports, the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The number of casualties has not been confirmed yet, as, according to provincial governor's spokesman Omar Zwak, two soldiers have lost their lives, while another security official stated that eight Afghan soldiers were killed and nearly a dozen more injured.

Helmand is among the relatively volatile provinces in South of Afghanistan where the anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in its various districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

On Friday, a ground-based rocket artillery was carried out against Taliban leaders in Musa Qala district in Helmand, Task Force-Southwest, under US Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A)
