<p>The announcement comes in the wake of Samajwadi Party&#39;s huge defeat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The party was reduced to just 47 seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly.</p>

<p>Before the elections, Akhilesh Yadav had dethroned party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav as the Samajwadi Party president, a move which was backed by the Election Commission of India which considered him as the president.</p>
