Reuters journalists case: Myanmar court postpones verdict to September 3

A Myanmar court has postponed the verdict on Reuters journalists to next week, news agency AFP reported. 

According to reports, the verdict will now be pronounced on September 3, district judge Khin Maung Maung said. The verdict was postponed owing to ill-health of the judge in the case, Maung added. 

Two Reuters journalists are facing trial on charges of violating a state secrets law while reporting on the Rohingya crisis. 

Wa Lone, 32, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 28, are charged with breaching the Official Secrets Act, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.

The case is being heard since January, the journalists have testified that they were being set up by the police for reporting a mass killing of Rohingya Muslims.

The duo claimed that they received some papers by two policemen during a meeting at a Yangon restaurant in December, shortly after which they were arrested.
