Pakistan's 'heaviest man' moved to hospital via military helicopter

An obese man in Pakistan, reportedly the "heaviest" in the country at over 330 kilograms, was moved via truck and military helicopter to a hospital for treatment on Tuesday after he appealed for help on social media.

Rescue teams broke down part of the wall of Noor Hasan's house to move him outside as he was too big to pass through the main door of his house. He was later transported and lifted into a truck and subsequently the helicopter to a hospital in Lahore. Hasan was not able to move freely on his own because of his weight and also because of related medical complications.

Army Chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa told Reuters that the army decided to make special arrangements for Hasan's transfer and treatment after his appeal on social media were not answered immediately.

According to a survey report released by the Pakistan Endocrine Society in 2018, 29 per cent of the Pakistani population is overweight, out of which 51 per cent fall in the category of obesity.

In 2017, Pakistan's most obese person with a weight of 360 kg underwent laparoscopic surgery, which brought his weight down to 200 kg.
