Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf hopeful of winning presidential elections: Information Minister

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would face no hurdles during the presidential elections and were hopeful that its candidate Arif Alvi will win, reports said. 

Presidential elections in Pakistan will be held on September 4.

Chaudhry also claimed that he had support from its allies - Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Grand Democratic Alliance and others, Geo News reported. 

He further said that the part had made a parliamentary board for the by-elections of national and provincial assemblies to be held in October which would send out tickets among its candidates without asking for applications, Geo News reported. 

The parliamentary board would be headed by PM Khan, the minister added.

Chaudhary informed that PTI government had already abolished political censorship from Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television, but did not elaborate, DAWN reported. 

Pakistan's President is elected by the members of the National Assembly or the lower house of parliament, senate and the four provincial assemblies.

According to the schedule issued by the electoral body, nomination papers for the presidential polls can be filed with the presiding officers in Islamabad and the four provinces by August 27, 12 noon.

Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted on August 29.
