Story highlights

In his review petition, Asif said that he unintentionally failed to disclose his foreign work permit in his nomination papers which was the reason for the Islamabad High Court (IHC) disqualifying him

PML-N leader and former foreign minister Khawaja Asif today challenged the Islamabad High Court's verdict that led to his disqualification as member of the parliament -- in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, media reports said.

In his review petition, Asif said that he unintentionally failed to disclose his foreign work permit in his nomination papers which was the reason for the Islamabad High Court (IHC) disqualifying him.

A three-member special bench had disqualified Asif as a lawmaker under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution for not disclosing his employment in a UAE company as an occupation and also the monthly salary he was receiving.

The Election Commission of Pakistan had formally de-notified Asif as a member of the National Assembly after the court's verdict.

Asif had made the announcement to challenge the disqualification decision against him on Tuesday while addressing a party rally.
