Pakistan Army seeks nearly 20% increase in salaries of personnel

The armed forces of Pakistan are seeking a 20 per cent increase in the salaries of their personnel for the fiscal year 2020-21.

According to a Defense Ministry memorandum, this salary hike would cost Rs. 63.67 billion to cover all three services—the Air Force, the Army, and the Navy.

The memorandum stated that the increase in salaries during fiscal 2020-21 is needed because of various factors that have “affected the fiscal space and livelihood of armed forces personnel”.

Last year, Due to PM Imran Khan's austerity drive in the nation Pakistan’s military “voluntarily agreed” to cut expenses due to the “critical financial situation” facing the country, and skipped a routine increase in the defence budget.
