Pakistan airways flight crashes in residential area in Karachi; at least 40 dead

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Lahore to Karachi crashed near Karachi airport in a residential area.

Pakistan's aviation authority said that at least 98 people were on board the flight including the crew. The passenger aircraft crashed in Karachi's suburb destroying several houses and damaging cars.
According to reports, at least 40 dead bodies were taken out of the wreckage.
Reports said the flight captain had informed about a "technical snag". All hospitals in the area have been pressed into service.
The Airbus A320 was en route to Karachi when the crash occurred.
Pakistan military has deployed its personnel for relief and rescue efforts.

The Army said helicopters were flown into the area for damage assessment and rescue efforts with urban search and rescue teams being sent to the site.
