More than 10,000 civilians killed or injured in Afghanistan conflict in 2017: UN

In a recent report published by United Nations showed disturbing data revealing Afghanistan war's impact on people living in the area.

According to the report a total of 10,453 civilian were victims of war in 2017 of which 3,438 were killed and 7,015 were injured.

The report was released on Thursday by the UN Assitance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

However, the report also states that the number has been decreased by nine per cent in comparison to the figures of 2016.

The report further says suicide bombings and other attacks using Improvised explosive device were the reason for the highest number of casualties.

The report also says that engagements between anti-government elements and pro-government forces caused 11% of civilian casualties.

People who were heavily affected by the violence were woman and children.

359 women were killed and 865 were injured; in child casualties, 861 were killed and 2,318 injured.

Though the number of woman casualties has been increased by five per cent compared to 2016 data. The child casualty number was decreased by 10% compared to 2016.

Afghanistan is in the war since 2001 after American invasion in order to dismantle Al-Qaeda and removing Taliban from power.
