Missing Indian student: University enquiry finds ABVP member guilty of assault

A member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has been found guilty of hitting missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, following which he went missing, a proctorial enquiry has established. 

Ahmed, 27, went missing on October 15, a day after an on-campus altercation with members of the ABVP. The ABVP is the student wing of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. 

The enquiry into the case was ordered due to lack of a significant breakthrough in the case to locate Ahmed. 

The ABVP student "has been found to be involved in hitting Najeeb Ahmed and using derogatory language with provocative behaviour on October 14. This is an act of indiscipline and misconduct," an official order read. 

The ABVP has accused the university administration of being “biased” in its conduct of the enquiry. 

"The proctor has taken deposition of those students into account who were not even present there. Not only the enquiry is biased but even the administration is siding with the left-dominated students union," PTI reported Saurabh Sharma, ABVP member as saying. 

Meanwhile, the ABVP member found guilty in the enquiry has been asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him, PTI reported.
