Out of 760 valid votes, Venkaiah Naidu won 516 votes and Opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi bagged 244 votes.

NDA candidate Venkaiah Naidu won the vice-presidential elections today bagging 516 votes with Gopalkrishna Gandhi winning 244 votes.

NDA candidate Venkaiah Naidu opened an early lead during the counting of votes in the vice-presidential elections winning 23 votes, translating to 57.5 share against Opposition nominee Gopalkrishna Gandhi who has won seven votes so far with 42.5 share.

The counting of votes began in the presidential elections with results set to be announced by 7:30 pm. 

14 MPs were absent during voting: 2 from BJP, 2 from INC, 2 from IUML, 4 from TMC, 1 from NCP; 1 from PMK & 2 Independent.

The counting of votes will commence after polling and the results will be declared by 7 pm, Election Commission officials have said.

The electoral college which elects the vice-president consists of elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.

According to the election officer, there has been 90.83 per cent voting till 1 pm in the vice-presidential elections. Reports said 713 votes have been cast so far.
