Leadership in Pakistan responsible for human rights violation: US lawmaker

Republican Congressmen Thomas Garrett has claimed that the leadership in Pakistan is responsible for the human rights violation in the country.

While addressing a US-based advocacy group "South Asian Minorities Alliance Foundation" he said, "There is no single community in Pakistan that I'm critical of, it is the leadership that denies individuals their rights, not by constitution or law but by nature and so things aren't operating as they were designed to operate".

The advocacy group represents ethnic minorities Mohajirs, Baloch, Gilgit and Hazara from Pakistan.

The platform is formed to address the "massive human rights violation by security forces and the ruling establishment of the country".

The advocacy group received support from two Republican Congressmen Thomas Garrett from Virginia and Scott Perry from Pennsylvania.

While Thomas Garrett claimed that the human rights violation in the country is because of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Scott Perry spoke against the US funding to Pakistan.

Scott Perry, who has voted in the House of Representative against the funding for Pakistan said, "You don't take American money and oppress your people with our money. That's not good".

Thomas Garrett said, "If you look at the constitution what some might say is controlled by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), it's the leadership of the nation that denies individuals the rights that they are entitled to".

The oppressed in Pakistan are expecting the intervention of US and the international community to step in and take measures against the atrocities being committed by Pakistani security forces and ISI, Nadeem Nusrat, Chairman of the Voice of Karachi said.
