Islamic State has claimed has responsibility for the attack on the TV station in Afghanistan's capital Kabul.

At least one person was killed in the attack after gunmen stormed the station. The terrorists had fired rocket-propelled grenades at the guards, AFP reported.

The terrorist organization's news agency Amaq said it was behind the attack.

"I saw three attackers on security cameras entering the TV station building. They first shot the guard and then entered the building. They started throwing grenades and firing," Shamshad TV reporter Faisal Zaland, who escaped through a back door, told AFP.

"Many of my colleagues are still in the building," he added.

Interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish had said as many as three attackers were involved in the assault.

Taliban had denied involvement in the attack on Twitter.

The attack came to an end after Afghan security forces rescued the staff inside.
