Indian Army's 'surgical strike' across the Line of Control: 10 key points

On Thursday, Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review the situation along the LoC. The Indian government also called an all-party meeting in the capital.

"I spoke to the Pak DGMO, shared our concerns and told him that we conducted surgical strikes last night," DGMO told. The Army said the operation had ended and there was no plan for any further strikes. But the forces were ready for any contingency, DGMO assured. 

Pakistan said there had been no such targeted strikes by India, instead, there had been cross border fire initiated by India.

The Indian President, Vice-President, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Jammu and Kashmir governor and the state chief minister were briefed on the surgical strikes by the Indian Army.
 

The Punjab government has ordered the evacuation of villages in a 10-km belt along the border with Pakistan following the surgical strikes.
 

Exchanges of fire took place in Bhimber (one of the access points for militants to enter India's Poonch district), Hot Spring, Kel and Lipa sectors in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, and lasted about four hours.
 

The Indian army special forces had been paradropped onto the hideouts which were between 500 metres to 2 kilometres across the LoC. The terrorist hideouts targeted during the raid were under surveillance for over a week.
 

The Indian Army on Thursday said it conducted "surgical strike" on militants in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir last night. 
 

The strikes were launched soon after midnight on Wednesday on eight terrorist hideouts across "five terrorist launchpads" located at the Line of Control. 
 

The Indian Army's director general of military operations, Lt General Ranbir Singh, said the targeted strikes based on specific intelligence resulted in "significant casualties". Sources told WION that 38 terrorists were killed in the operation.
