A 28-year-old woman who was looking for a house was allegedly gang-raped by men persons in suburban Jogeshwari, in western Mumbai, police said. Seven of the accused were arrested today.

The violent incident occurred in Amboli last night, when the victim and her husband were searching for a home in Shamnagar slum with the help of a local woman.

Since it had got late, the couple decided to stay at the woman's house, police said. Suddenly, eight men barged into the house and gang-raped the victim in front of her husband before fleeing.

"After the incident, the woman and her husband reached Amboli Police Station to lodge a complaint. Police registered a case against eight persons, one of them had criminal records," Mumbai Police spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Dudhe said.

Seven accused were held today while one person is still at large, the official said, adding all of them are aged between 20-25. The woman has already been discharged from the hospital and police said she is in stable condition.

A case has been registered against eight persons in this connection under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code with the Amboli Police Station.
