India: Two teen boys killed by speeding train while taking selfie

 Two teenagers were killed by a speeding train while they posed for selfies at a railway track in the Indian capital of New Delhi.

The incident took place in East Delhi's Pandav Nagar area on Saturday (January 14). The victims, Yash Kumar (16) and Shubham Saini (14), along with their five friends, had reportedly rented a camera to build a modelling portfolio.

The teenagers were clicking a selfie in front of an approaching train. However, they did not notice that another train was coming on the adjacent track and the boys were killed in the confusion while jumping tracks.

The duo's friends, who stood at a distance of a few feet, had a narrow-escape themselves, said local media reports.

"The children went to the tracks to take a selfie. They clicked some selfies there with train but they didn't see the train coming from the other side and the two kids were mowed down by it," said Kumar's uncle on Monday (January 16).

The deceased teens were classmates at a private school in East Delhi. Police have seized the camera and an investigation is on.

Incidents like these are not uncommon in India as local youths play on the train track to boast about their feats of 'daredevil'. Many people become victim to grievous accidents when they stumble while performing dangerous stunts.

The rise of selfie photography in some of the world's most beautiful, and dangerous, places is sparking a range of interventions aimed at combating risk-taking that has resulted in a string of gruesome deaths worldwide.
